Matthew Stafford opens up about true feelings on not having a son after four daughters

The Los Angeles Rams star Matthew Stafford is a father to four daughters - Sawyer, Chandler, Hunter and Tyler, whom he shares with his wife, Kelly. The couple have long pressed the brakes on family expansion after their fourth daughter, Tyler Stafford.

There have always been discussions around Stafford never having a son to carry forward his NFL legacy. The Rams quarterback recently shared his honest opinion on the same during his star appearance on his wife's "The Morning After" podcast on Monday.

Stafford started off his statement by explaining how he doesn't regret not having a son because of all the pressure and expectations he would have to face from an early age.

"I thought it would be extra challenging if we did have a boy. I’ve known what it’s like to have expectations since I was 15 years old or so, probably," Stafford said. "I thank my lucky stars that I didn’t have that from six to 15. I was able to just be a kid who could throw a ball a little bit, was good at other sports, and had fun." [23:57]

The quarterback explained how in his childhood, he "didn’t have to worry about what my [his] dad did" and the pressure of living up to the expectations of everyone. Nevertheless, if the quarterback had a son, he would most likely not have the same normal childhood as his father.

"If I had a son or if we had a boy, that was a possibility for a kid to be 8 years old and everybody at the park looking at him going, ‘Hey, why doesn’t he throw it a little better?’ When I was 8 years old, I didn’t have a care in the world as to what was going on around me," Stafford said.

Last week, Kelly Stafford shared a quick glimpse into her parenting journey, revealing her secret trick to keeping the sense of cheerfulness alive in her four daughters. Kelly posted a picture on her Instagram story, in which she could be seen showing her daughters their childhood pictures.

"Love showing them old videos of them dancing and acting silly.. reminding them it's ok to not take life so seriously," Kelly wrote.

Matthew Stafford and his wife, Kelly, took time off from their parenting responsibilities to enjoy the wedding of Canadian singer Robin Thicke. Kelly later recapped her core memories from the singer's Las Ventanas al Paraiso wedding via her Instagram.
