Dolphins vs. Bills summary
The Dolphins' quest to avoid a fifth straight loss to the Bills got off to a disastrous start as less than three minutes into the game, Tua Tagovailoa tossed an interception to Ja'Marcus Ingram and gave the Bills incredible field position on their opening drive.
Miami's defense had seemingly saved their quarterback's blushes, as they forced a 4th-and-3 from the 17-yard line. However, Allen and James Cook combined to find the endzone for the game's opening touchdown.
The Dolphins responded with a surgical 14-play, 80-yard drive, culminating in a 5-yard touchdown pass from Tagovailoa to running back De'Von Achane which leveled the score at 7-7.
Miami's defense got the Bills' offense off the field in under 90 seconds, but on the subsequent drive, Tagovailoa tossed his second interception to give Allen and the Bills offense a short field. Thankfully, the Dolphins' defensive unit limited them to a field goal as the visitors took a 10-7 lead.
Tagovailoa and the offense couldn't respond and punted the ball back to the Bills, who marched down the field on a 10-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that saw Buffalo extend its advantage to 10 points.
Down 17-7, the Dolphins made the brave call to go for it on 4th-and-2 just past midfield. However, it backfired as Ed Oliver sacked Tagovailoa to give the Bills another short field. Allen wasted little time to capitalize as he found James Cook for a 49-yard touchdown.
On the penultimate drive of the half, the Dolphins took 14 plays to gain 54 yards and had to settle for a 34-yard field goal, ending Buffalo's 17-point streak. The Bills knelt on the final drive of the half to go into the break with a 24-10 lead.
Miami's defense started the second half strong and forced Buffalo off the field after only six plays. The home team's first drive of the third quarter looked promising, but disaster struck, as Tagovailoa threw his second interception of the game to Ingram, who returned it 31 yards for a touchdown.
On the subsequent drive, the Dolphins looked poised to cut the deficit back to 14 points. However, Tagovailoa suffered a head injury, which was later ruled a concussion, and was forced to leave the game. Skylar Thompson stepped in to try and finish the drive with a touchdown but was instead sacked on 4th down, as the Dolphins turned the ball over on downs for the second time in the game.
With the result now a formality, the teams played out the fourth quarter without any aggressive play calls and the game finished 31-10 in the Bills' favor, who improved to 2-0.
