Micah Parsons has been wanting a monstrous contract extension ever since the Dallas Cowboys invoked his fifth-year option in 2024. Even though negotiations have been slow, Parsons still showed up to mandatory minicamp on Tuesday after having skipped OTAs.
Speaking to the press on why he did so, he said:
“I think it’s important to be in the building, the knowledge of the defense, to understand what (defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus) and (they) are trying to do. Very dynamic scheme and I’m pretty excited about it.”

The subject of the negotiations eventually came up during his presser, which he addressed.
"Still hanging tight," Parons said. "Like I said, it's up to [owner/general manager Jerry Jones]. He gives the green light on everything, so hopefully something's done by next month."
While the two did meet on the field and discuss Parsons' offseason, they did not discuss the contract situation.
"He was telling me I look pretty good, so I got excited about that," Parsons added. "Asking me about the trip I just went on... Then obviously just stepping up and being a leader and how much he appreciates it. And that means a lot to me."
Micah Parsons weighs in on minicamp absences of T.J. Watt, Trey Hendrickson
Edge rusher has been one of the busier markets of the 2025 offseason so far. Maxx Crosby, then Myles Garrett, set the record for highest-paid defender in the NFL. Less famous names like Harold Landry, Josh Sweat, and DeMarcus Lawrence have also received big contracts in free agency.
However, there are still two major holdouts - AFC North rivals T.J. Watt and Trey Hendrickson. Like Micah Parsons, both are entering the final year of their deals. But unlike him, both skipped mandatory minicamp.
Parsons understands why they would do what they did. In the same presser, he said:
"Those guys [are veterans] in their program. I think guys like that, they already can put their selves at the top. They're great leaders for their program. I think for me, I'm still trying to grow. I'm still into my second deal. Those guys are going into their third deals, so everyone's situation is different."
The Cowboys' summer/preseason camp begins on July 22 in Oxford, California. Micah Parsons has vowed to be there, extension or no extension.
