The Dallas Cowboys' downfall is already one of the most heavily-covered stories of the 2024 season, but it has taken a new, very worrying twist. Shortly after the team was routed 34-6 at home by the divisional rival Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon, star linebacker Micah Parsons, who was making his return after a high ankle sprain, told reporters:

“(Head coach) Mike (McCarthy) can leave and go wherever he wants. Guys I kind of feel bad for [are] guys like Zack Martin who might be on their last year or on their way out. Because that’s who I wanted to hold the trophy for. You want to win games and do great things with those legends who put in more time and work than Mike McCarthy ever did.”

Fans immediately made their assumptions:

"McCarthy has lost the locker room"

More of the reactions on Micah Parsons' comments can be seen below:

"Wow, I’ve never heard a player diss the head coach like that before," one marveled.
"Micah, you know Dan Quinn is just a phone call away buddy in a few years when you’re a free agent," another prodded.
"Tell me he didn't just say that," another shuddered.

Cowboys’ defense has to “be the light”, Micah Parsons urges as star pass-rusher returns from injury

The Cowboys’ offensive woes wasted a strong performance from Micah Parsons, who had two sacks on Jalen Hurts and a forced fumble. After the game, he said playing his first snaps in a while felt great:

"I felt the energy on the sidelines was different. Being back with the guys was different, and you could tell the guys felt the energy that I was bringing. I just wanted to bring some juice to the team and I felt, for the most part, the defense played a pretty good game," Parsons said per Cowboys.com

Another strong performer was DeMarvion Overshown, who has finally been playing after an ACL tear during preseason meant he did not get to take to the field as a rookie. He finished with two sacks to go with 11 tackles (eight solo).

Parsons had nothing but praise for the sophomore:

"He's got a true warrior spirit, man. I love the energy he brings… How he plays, the motor and the relentlessness, I hope he's greater than me in all aspects of this game."

Looking forward, he hopes the defense becomes a bright sout for a floundering squad:

"We had a great message in chapel this week: You've gotta be the light. Even when the other side — the offense's light— isn't shining as bright as in the past … we've gotta be the offense's light this time."

Micah Parsons and the Cowboys host the in-state rival Houston Texans next week on Monday Night Football.
