Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers suffered another inexplicable loss this week to the Carolina Panthers. Following their shocking loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers the week before, the Buccaneers couldn't move the ball at all en route to a 21-3 loss.
In the past two weeks, they've scored a combined 21 points with a single touchdown. The offense looks bad and like it is in desperate need of outside help. One name has been tossed around since he first retired and that is Rob Gronkowski. However, NFL analyst Kyle Brandt believes that Gronkowski is not coming to save his old pal, Brady.
He said as much on Kyle Brandt's Basement:
"Maybe they'll get this thing together, but they look like crap. They look so bad and there's no help coming. People saying ‘Gronk's going to come out of retirement.’ If you were Gronk, would you come out of retirement to play with that? Why?"
He continued:
"Gronk hangs out with Camille and does endorsements and shows up in USAA commercials and probably has 50 different companies that want to work with him. And he never takes another hit. Gronk’s not coming back, guys. Gronk would come back if they were surging to the playoffs. It's like, ‘maybe I'll get another ring and a few more checks.’ No one's coming. No help is coming. This is it. Fix it."
Brady and the Buccaneers might be able to turn it around, but they will more than likely have to do it without Rob Gronkowski.
What can Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers do to turn it around?
If not for the generally poor play of the other three NFC South teams, the Buccaneers would be in serious danger. They sit at 3-4, a poor record that is somehow still good enough for first in the division.
They need help, though. They can't count on those teams to stay as bad or worse than they are. Despite having three good wide receivers, the Buccaneers need to get Brady more help on offense.
Cam Akers, the jilted Los Angeles Rams running back, is reportedly available and would provide depth out of the backfield, though their problems are deeper than a lack of running backs. Should the Panthers continue their fire sale, D.J. Moore represents an intriguing option. He's healthier and more effective than Julio Jones at this point and could be a spark for the offense.
The Denver Broncos have struggled and wideout Jerry Jeudy is reportedly generating trade interest, and he would immediately improve their offense. We will see what the Buccaneers elect to do as the trade deadline slowly encroaches.
