NFL fans obsess over Taylor Heinicke's pre-game fit - "Peaky f**kin blinders", "Next week he’s going to show up wearing the jacket from Drive"

Washington Commanders quarterback Taylor Heinicke
Washington Commanders quarterback Taylor Heinicke's pregame outfit had NFL fans talking before Sunday kickoff.

Since taking over as the Washington Commanders' starting quarterback, Taylor Heinicke has the team on a three-game winning streak and is 7-5 on the season. The Commanders are now in the playoff conversation and apparently, the quarterback has a little bit of confidence as he enters their next game.

On Sunday morning, Heinicke walked into MetLife Stadium ahead of the New York Giants clash wearing a suit that included a vest, a hat, and even a pocket watch. An outfit that was definitely a unique look for a game in this era.

NFL fans took to Reddit and Twitter to discuss the video of Heinicke walking into the stadium. Fans compared the quarterback's outfit to that from the show "Peaky Blinders," which is about an Irish gangster.

Others said that the outfit showed just how confident the quarterback is ahead of the divisional matchup. His successful play has garnered him the starting quarterback position over former starter Carson Wentz.

Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason was recently interviewed on the Locked on Commanders podcast. He spoke about the impact that Taylor Heinicke has on the team's success. He stated the respect that the team has for him as a leader is a huge part of the team's success, saying:

"His teammates respect him, admire him, and want to play for him, and I can see that."

Esiason also said that Commanders head coach Ron Rivera can see how much the Commanders offense has changed under the quarterback:

"What I think Ron Rivera is recognizing as a former player himself is just how Taylor Heinicke has ignited this team."

The Commanders quarterback went undrafted in 2015 out of Old Dominion University. He had two stints with the Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers as well as time in the XFL.

He had nearly given up on a career in the National Football League and returned to Old Dominion when Ron Rivera called him in 2020 in need of a starting quarterback. Despite his success in 2020 and 2021, it was an injury to Carson Wentz this season that eventually led to him getting another opportunity as a starter.
