Caleb Williams did it again on Sunday, playing rather terribly in his second NFL game. But while he was bailed by the defense the first time against the Tennessee Titans, he would not be so lucky at the Houston Texans, who had their way with him to the tune of seven sacks and two interceptions.

Mockery was aplenty for the Chicago Bears quarterback, with comparisons made to one of the most notorious draft busts of all time, a notable disppointment who has been bouncing around the league for quite some time, and CJ Stroud's fellow sophomore who has been struggling to win when compared to him:

There was also disgust, which can be seen below:

"Greatest bust of all time," one said.
"Yeah it’s over we drafted a bust im sick," another raged.
"Someone tell him this ain’t the Pac 12," another demanded.

Those two interceptions came from cornerbacks Derek Stingley Jr. and Kamari Lassiter, who simply completely shut down Caleb Williams’ wideouts Rome Odunze (six catches for 53 yards) and DJ Moore (two for 33). Meanwhile, the following players had at least a sack:

  • Henry To’oTo’o
  • Azeez Al-Shaair
  • Danielle Hunter
  • Will Anderson Jr.
  • Derek Barnett
  • Mario Edwards Jr.

Meanwhile, CJ Stroud was dominant on offense, completing 23 of 36 attempts for 260 yards despite being sacked thrice. Eight of those completions and 135 of those yards went to Nico Collins, who also scored the Texans’ only touchdown.

Neither team’s running backs showed much prowess on the ground, with Williams himself being the game’s leading rusher with 44 yards from five carries. The next-best was Cam Akers with 32 from seven in relief of Joe Mixon, who injured his ankle on a hip-drop tackle by TJ Edwards that somehow did not draw a penalty (the league had banned the move during the offseason amidst a spate of injuries).

The Bears conclude their AFC South gauntlet at the Indianapolis Colts (they host the Jacksonville Jaguars before their bye week). The Texans, meanwhile, stick with the NFC North for their next assignment, visiting the surprising Minnesota Vikings.
