The Dallas Cowboys have plenty of offseason moves to make and it appears they are getting closer to a deal that keeps one of Dak Prescott's best offensive linemen in Frisco.
Surefire Hall of Famer Tyron Smith and his future has been up in the air after rookie Tyler Smith stepped into his role. This was after Tyron tore his hamstring off the bone in the preseason.
Tyron Smith's current contract now has no guaranteed money and he is set to make over $13 million in 2023. So what will the Cowboys do? In desperate need to sign an offensive playmaker to help ease the pressure on CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys have an interesting decision ahead of them with Smith.
However, as per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Cowboys are working with the left tackle to restructure his contract. They are looking to bring his salary and cap hit down to a more manageable number.
This is good news for Dallas fans as one of Prescott's best linemen (aside from Zack Martin) looks to return to The Star in 2023.
Cowboys getting help around Dak Prescott
Dak Prescott is going to be the Cowboys' quarterback for the foreseeable future, whether the fans like it or not. For Dallas to have the best chance at winning a Super Bowl, getting the right pieces around him is paramount (insert Tyron Smith).
With Prescott's contract set to be extended in a bid to ease the salary cap number, Dallas will be looking to save around $20 million once the restructure goes through.
This will mean that the Cowboys can then look at re-signing the team's free agents, such as Leighton Vander Esch or Donovan Wilson. They will do so while also entertaining the idea of acquiring DeAndre Hopkins or Odell Beckham Jr.
All of those moves would present a step in the right direction for Jerry Jones' team. Also, they are moves that need to be made if Dallas is to catch the Philadelphia Eagles.
All the proposed moves are to help Dak Prescott and the offense which, at times, last season was up and down.
