On Wednesday morning, ESPN writer Seth Wickersham, alongside Don Van Natta Jr. and Jeremy Fowler, dropped a bombshell report on why Bill Belichick went jobless during the head coach hiring cycle.
The report covered the six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach's failure in landing a coaching gig and highlighted that Rober Kraft warned Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank against hiring Bill Belichick.
This story did not sit well with one of Pat McAfee's team members - Connor Campbell, who goes by the nickname “Boston Connor.” He took an issue with certain parts of the ESPN story.
"Some of the things from it just clear bullshit," Campbell said.
“They said that Bill was blindsided that he didn’t get the job. This is the Falcons. That’s kind of hard to believe. They were looking at 14 candidates. One of them was a former interim head coach in Atlanta, who Arthur Blank knows. We talked to Raheem Morris [on the Pat McAfee show]. If you were to sit down with that guy, it would be hard not to be like, ‘Yeah, I’d run through a wall. That is our head coach.'”
Campbell added,
“The other thing that they mentioned… Belichick wasn’t eager to work with Rich McKay. I guess, sure, maybe, that could be true, but if they’re just putting out bland statements like that… He wasn’t eager. We can say that, because he probably wasn’t eager to work with anybody, things like that are annoying.”
“The idea that Bob Kraft called up Arthur Blank and said, ‘Hey if you hire this a**hole you’re screwed for the next 10 years, you’re going to ruin your entire building’ — that exact thing, very hard to believe."
Bill Belichick looking forward to NFL Draft in new partnership with Pat McAfee
While Bill Belichick may be out of the NFL this season, he will be involved in the 2024 NFL Draft. On Wednesday, Pat McAfee surprised everyone with the announcement that the former Patriots head coach will join him for the draft coverage.
Belichick said he was looking forward to Draft Weekend and seeing it from the other side.
This role in media could be the first of many more to come. According to ESPN, the six-time Super Bowl-winning HC will be joining Peyton Manning's Omaha Productions soon.
But coaching is still in Belichick's heart. He wants to coach and is patiently waiting until January in hopes of opening among the teams of his interest, the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles, per ESPN.
