Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills booked their berth in the divisional round of the playoffs with a comfortable 31-7 win over the Denver Broncos. While the final score wasn't close, the two teams were separated by only one score until late in the third quarter.

The Broncos defense kept their team in the game for as long as possible, but not always convincingly. On a 3rd-and-goal play early in the third quarter, Denver's defensive lineman D.J. Jones sacked Allen and forced Buffalo to settle for a field goal, much to the quarterback's frustration.

He was looking to throw the ball to tight end Dalton Kincaid, who was matched up against cornerback Patrick Surtain II, who was at a major size disadvantage. The All-Pro got away with a clear defensive hold on the Bills star despite a referee being less than a yard away, forcing Allen to look elsewhere. However, the pocket had collapsed and Allen couldn't get out of it before Jones got to him.

The quarterback voiced his displeasure to the lead official, who agreed that one of his crew members blew an easy call. The referee was spotted going up and seemingly apologizing to Allen for the error.

Fans on social media were irate but the reaction wasn't strong enough for former Kansas City Chiefs star Mitchell Schwartz. He posted:

"Can't even imagine what would happen #OnHere if a ref went up to Mahomes on the bench and had that same interaction. People would lose their freaking minds."

Josh Allen and Bills secure divisional round berth

Following that refereeing gaffe, Josh Allen and the Bills scored on three straight drives to leave no doubt about who deserved the win.

On a 4th-and-1 play late in the third quarter, the quarterback scrambled around to avoid getting sacked again and waited for one of his teammates to get open. Ty Johnson found some separation in the endzone and Allen threw a dime in his direction to help the home team extend its lead.

On the subsequent drive, the Bills superstar found Curtis Samuel in acres of space, and the wide receiver did the rest to virtually end the game.

Kicker Tyler Bass tacked on three more points to his team's total to extend their lead to 24, which was the final margin of victory. The Bills will host the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round next week, where Allen will take on Lamar Jackson, his rival for the MVP award.
