Brandon Staley is facing a lot of heat from the media for the collapse of the Los Angeles Chargers against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Chargers had a 27-0 lead in the first half and yet still somehow managed to lose the game.
While Staley received criticism throughout the season, now everyone is blaming him for the loss in the Wildcard Round. Some even believe that Staley should be relieved of his duties, and Richard Sherman shares the same idea.
Here's what Richard Sherman said about the Los Angeles Chargers:
"This was a catastrophic collapse by the LA chargers and there has to be some kind of retribution. There has to be somebody that pays for this. And if there's not, then you're going to look forward to another season of underwhelming performances."
Sherman continued:
"Underwhelming play by the quarterback, and people questioning what he would do if Sean Payton was maybe the coach and how much success he would have with a brilliant offensive mind maybe a new offensive coordinator. I don't know, but something has to change."
Justin Herbert is one of the best quarterbacks in the National Football League and people believe Brandon Staley isn't able to maximize his talent. It won't be a surprise if we continue to see rumblings around his future in the upcoming off-season.
Sean Payton is considered an ideal replacement for Staley and he will be having interviews with multiple franchises in the coming weeks.
Brandon Staley's future as Chargers HC still up in air
Despite the shocking collapse against the Jacksonville Jaguars, quarterback Justin Herbert still has faith in his head coach. He might become the driving force behind getting Brandon Staley another year in LA and rule out a move for Payton.
Moreover, Chargers owners are unlikely to spend time firing Staley and then getting Sean Payton on board. In addition, the New Orleans Saints will demand a first-round pick to allow Payton to become the head coach of the new team.
Herbert will be eligible for a contract extension as well in the summer and an important offseason awaits the Los Angeles Chargers.
