New Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton has given his thoughts on the "tush push" that the Philadelphia Eagles utilized so well with Jalen Hurts.

The tush push is essentially when a quarterback is going to sneak the ball, he will have one or two players set up either behind him or to the side of him. Once the ball is snapped, the players then get in behind the quarterback and push him forward and past the first down marker.

Such is its effectiveness, Payton said that if the NFL doesn't outlaw the move, he will definitely be using it with Russell Wilson next season.

Payton said via Ari Meirov:

“It amounts to a rugby scrum. The NFL wants to showcase the athleticism and skill of our athletes. This is just not a skillful play."

While the Broncos head coach is right -- it's not a skillful play. But if using it means that his team constantly gets first downs, then of course he will do it.

Other coaches will no doubt look to adopt the play as well. Several quarterbacks are big in physical stature (like Josh Allen) and would be unstoppable on the play.

Is Sean Payton going to use the Tush Push rule with Russell Wilson?

If the NFL doesn't outlaw the rule, then Payton and Wilson would be unwise not to utilize it. After the Broncos found scoring points extremely difficult last season, anything that the team and its coaches can do to rectify that is a bonus.

With the former New Orleans Saints head coach now in control, many expect the Broncos to be a vastly improved team in 2023. Already with a superb defense, the big trouble comes offensively.

Getting a head coach who is an offensive wizard, the Broncos are tipped by many to improve out of sight (although last year seemed the same).

It remains to be seen if Denver will be in the playoff hunt next season, but with their new coach and the Tush Push rule, the Broncos have another tool in their armory.
