Shannon Sharpe compares Lamar Jackson's situation to Tom Brady's rocky Patriots exit

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson announced on Twitter on Monday that he requested a trade from the team on March 2. The news comes as he's looking to depart from the Ravens as they haven't matched him on a contract offer that he is looking for.

The news has been making the rounds on Twitter and social media and confirms the rocky relationship between the two sides.

"Undisputed" co-host and former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe is baffled by the situation. He said that he can't recall a situation like this since the New England Patriots were having a hard time reworking Tom Brady's contract after he won a Super Bowl:

"I can't remember a time in which a player won an MVP within the first three years and then had to play the remaining two years out of his rookie contract. I'm not talking about years and years ago, but even Tom Brady, when Tom Brady won the Super Bowl, they redid his contract.
"So, I'm thinking that's the normal rule of thumb that they're going to redo the contract. Ditto. But when it didn't happen. And then he's like, OK, I'll use it. Well, he won an MVP, but he lost a playoff game. The next year he comes back in, he wins the playoff game and he does it on the road.
"And they don't do the contract. And then the next year, Skip (Bayless), he plays well, but they don't do the contract. And he goes and says, 'I'm not worried about it. Yadda, yadda, yadda. Everything to take care of itself.'
"Well, when it didn't take care of itself, you know, Lamar Jackson, I would do what I got to do to win a contract. I win an MVP, I win your playoff game, I take it to the playoffs, win the division, etc., etc., etc. And is cricket from you? What?"

Could Lamar Jackson be traded to the Indianapolis Colts?

While Jackson has made it apparent that he wants out of Baltimore, could a trade happen this offseason?

The Ravens are trying to retain Lamar, and they're ready to play Jackson this season under the franchise tag.

Jackson could force himself to sit out like Le'Veon Bell did, but he would lose out on money in 2023.

One team that could make a run for Jackson is the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts may trade down in the draft if a quarterback of their liking isn't available at pick No. 4. They could pull the trigger and sign him to a long-term deal while giving up two first-round picks to the Ravens since he is on the exclusive franchise tag.

Do you see the Ravens trading away Lamar Jackson this off-season?
