Skylar Thompson added to the Miami Dolphins' quarterback injury struggles on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. In the first half of the Dolphins' Week 6 game, Thompson left the field after being sacked by Jordan Hicks.

Thompson, a rookie quarterback for the Dolphins, departed the game in the first half with a thumb issue to his throwing hand. According to coach Mike McDaniel, Thompson was practically unable to resume for Sunday's 24-16 defeat to the Vikings.

While throwing a pass in the second quarter, Thompson, who was making his first career start, seemed to strike his right hand on a Vikings defender's helmet. After the incident, he wrapped his bloody thumb in a napkin and proceeded to the locker room for a medical checkup. Before departing, the seventh-round pick made 7 of 13 throws for 89 yards.

Thompson started the match as the 25th different Dolphins quarterback to do so since Dan Marino's retirement following the 1999 season.

The Dolphins are having trouble managing all the injuries their key players are sustaining. Their quarterbacks have not been lucky. Teddy Bridgewater and Tua Tagovailoa have missed games this season due to concussions. The latest mishap now being Skylar Thompson's injury.

Thompson was replaced by backup Teddy Bridgewater, who cleared the concussion protocol on Saturday. He completed 23 of 34 throws for 329 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Teddy Bridgewater stated after the game:

"It's just our luck that the guy who wasn't prepared as the starter has to go into the game and play most of it. But, man, this game is so wild. And it simply relates to daily life. One morning as you prepare to do anything, something unexpected occurs."

Unavailable against the Vikings, first-string quarterback Tagovailoa is anticipated to start for Miami against the Pittsburgh Steelers on October 23 in a prime-time contest.

Skylar Thompson forms part of a historical feat for the Dolphins

Skylar Thompson was Miami's third different starter in three weeks. The last time the Dolphins saw a similar occurrence was roughly 12 years ago. Chad Pennington, Tyler Thigpen, and Chad Henne started consecutive games in the second half of the 2010-11 season. Miami also rotated three starting players across three weeks in their 1975 and 1980 campaigns.
