Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott recently became the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL on a yearly basis. Prescott and the Cowboys agreed on a four-year $240 million deal, with $231 million guaranteed.
Contracts in the NFL are increasing as league officials continue to increase the salary cap. This offseason the salary cap increased by 13.6% from $224.8 million to $255.4 million, which is around $30 million per team.
On Sportskeeda WrestleBinge's debut of their new show, "The Coach and Bro," featuring ex-WWE star Jonathan "The Coach" Coachman and former WWE head writer Vince Russo, the two discussed Prescott's recent extension. Russo thinks that Prescott and fellow athletes should take as much money as they can for themselves, because they won't be in those positions forever.
Russo said:

"Man listen, if I'm from the school of "If you can get the money, take it, man. If your agent can get you every last dollar, take the money, bro. I'm a big advocate of that because, listen, Coach, we want to get back to wrestling. You got to remember, these guys have a shelf life."
"They're not going to be in that position forever. They've got a very short shelf life. He's not going to make that kind of money when he goes into the announcer booth. So, for the years he's on that field, bro, make as much money as you can possibly get."
Dak Prescott became the first quarterback in NFL history to be paid $60 million per season
Dak Prescott took Vince Russo's advice. He got every penny he could possibly could from the Dallas Cowboys.
With Prescott set to earn $240 million over the course of four seasons, he became the first player in NFL history to make $60 million per year. While Patrick Mahomes signed the first sports contract of over $500 million in 2020, he only averages $45 million per year on his current deal.
Prescott also has the most guaranteed money by any quarterback with $230 million guaranteed in his contract. According to spotrac.com, Prescott has earned $162 million in his nine-year career. After his $230 million deal, he will be one of the top earners in NFL history.
Prescott led the Cowboys to a 1-0 start as the team defeated the Cleveland Browns 33-17 in the season opener on Sunday.
