Tyreek Hill's future in Miami has become one of the NFL's hottest trade topics as the Dolphins reassess their cap space and locker-room dynamics ahead of the 2025 season. Although Hill remains under contract, league sources suggest Miami could clear approximately $15 million in salary cap room by moving him.

On Thursday, NFL.com's David Carr shared that the New England Patriots, valued at $7.4 billion according to Forbes, could emerge as a logical landing spot, particularly now that they've invested heavily in overhauling their offense.

That prospect has intensified because Hill's production dipped to 959 receiving yards in 2024, his lowest total since 2019. This is after playing through a wrist injury that ultimately required offseason surgery and kept him off the field during spring OTAs.

Off-field distractions have also complicated the picture. In April, Miami Gardens police responded to a domestic dispute at Hill's condo, and his wife filed for divorce days later.

Compounding those issues was his absence in the second half of Miami's season finale against the New York Jets, a decision coach Mike McDaniel explicitly did not condone. This was followed by a public apology when Tyreek Hill first hinted at requesting a trade.

With the Dolphins already fighting to keep pace with the AFC East's top teams, clearing Hill's cap charge would allow them to reallocate resources toward Tua Tagovailoa.

Why does New England make sense for Tyreek Hill?

From New England’s perspective, adding Tyreek Hill would align perfectly with Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels’ goal of turning the Patriots into a more vertically explosive offense. This is his first year working alongside quarterback Drake Maye.

McDaniels described an offseason characterized by new wrinkles in the playbook and collaboration among coaches with diverse backgrounds.

Maye, entering his second NFL season, has impressed McDaniels with his work ethic and ability to digest corrections quickly. During recent OTAs, Maye displayed sharp accuracy on deep and intermediate throws. He connected with targets like Kayshon Boutte and showcased poise under pressure.

NFL.com's David Carr noted that Hill could "elevate McDaniels' offense to the next level" by forcing opposing defenses to respect the deep ball. This thereby opens up the intermediate game and exploits matchups.
