Following a tragic set of events, 16-year-old Ashari Hughes collapsed and died during a high school flag football game. Medical personnel tried their best to save the girl, but were left devastated by the end.

Tributes poured in for the girl, as many lamented over the loss of such a young life. Her family are devastated, trying to cope with such a sudden tragedy. However, they are determined to honor her memory as well as they can.

Of course, a young teenager passing away due to natural causes is always a reason to worry. Furthermore, everyone did what they could to save her life, but even their heroic efforts weren't fruitful.

Ashari Hughes passed away due to a medical emergency, which resulted in an unexpected cardiac death.

The Clark County coroner explained that it was an "anomalous origin of right coronary artery from left coronary sinus of Valsalva." Though it was sudden, it was from natural causes. Interestingly, it is considerably rarer as it exists in less than three-percent of congenital coronary anomalies.

The community and her close ones continue to mourn her death, planning vigils and tributes to remember Ashari Hughes.

Did a vaccine cause Ashari Hughes' death?

Despite some claims, reports stated that medical experts have ruled out vaccine injury as a cause. Hughes collapsed and the staff rushed to perform CPR by the time paramedics were on scene.

Principal Ian Salzman sent an email to student families about the same.

“Staff immediately began providing medical aid and continued until paramedics arrived,” Principal Salzman said. “It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that the student passed away.”

Studying at Desert Oasis High School, Ashari was already seeing a cardiologist for persistent heart issues. She was cleared to play, but still ended up having chest pain. She collapsed while taking a break on the sidelines.

Nurse Aphelia Phifer-Hill, who performed CPR, said that it was her first time performing CPR on someone so young. Ashari Hughes was also her own daughter's teammate.

Her parents, Enttroda and Twayne Hughes, also took to sharing a few words about their daughter:

“She loved music, dancing, and being around all the people she loved … She called football the real love of her life!”

The fundraiser for her funeral was shared on Friday afternoon last week, and had surpassed $21,000 on Saturday morning.
