What happened to Joey Bosa? How long is he out for?

Joey Bosa of the Los Angeles Chargers warms up before a game

LA Chargers linebacker Joey Bosa sustained an injury in Week 3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, which put him on the injured reserve list. Despite this, the player initially had an encouraging outlook. However, his hopes of a quick return were shattered after he was forced to go under the knife.

Bosa tripped while attempting to get around the brink while rushing Trevor Lawrence. He lay on the ground as medical personnel examined him and subsequently limped off the sidelines.

Earlier in October, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the pass rusher for the Chargers would be sidelined for eight to 10 weeks due to a groin rupture.

Brandon Staley, the Chargers head coach, added that Bosa's injury was serious but that the franchise expects him to make a comeback at some point in the season.

"Bosa's return is something we anticipate. I am aware that he is positive and prepared to tackle it. He's got a great attitude right now. Because he was playing so well, it is never easy to sustain an injury like that, but we had good news in that regard when it became clear that he wouldn't miss the entire season."

He could return in week 11 at the earliest. As a result, the Chargers will have a significantly diminished pass rush for most of the season.

Bosa was the 2016 Defensive Rookie of the Year and has three successive Pro Bowl berths.

Joey Bosa will be a big miss for the LA Chargers

Bosa is a key component of the defensive setup for the team. In addition to 1.5 sacks, two tackles for loss, and six total tackles this season, he has forced a turnover.

The former No. 3 selection also had 10 quarterback pressures.

Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack combined for 5 1/2 sacks, 20 QB pressurex, and 13 hurries in the first two games of the season before things went awry. The Chargers will hope they can remain in the hunt for a playoff spot even until Bosa's return.
