Patrick Mahomes played at Texas Tech prior to getting to the NFL and once his father was arrested at a Tech vs. TCU game. Former Boston Red Sox player Mahomes Sr. was arrested on a charge of public intoxication.

As per US Today, Texas defensive end Breckyn Hager told TV reporters that his unit's mission was to "injure that quarterback."

Later, Texas coach Charlie Strong clarified the whole situation and released the following statement:

"I want to make one thing clear, We never walk into a game wanting to injure someone. We would never coach that way and that's not how our team plays."

The Texas Longhorns, Texas Tech, and TCU are arch-rivals of each other and the hate between the players on those teams is ever-present. Whether or not Breckyn Hager's message was directed at Mahomes is unknown, but the father of the Chiefs quarterback didn't like those comments.

Mahomes was injured the last time the Longhorns visited Lubbock. Quandre Diggs ran him over in the second quarter of a 34-13 Texas victory in 2014. As he walked away from the field, he appeared drowsy.

After his heroics at Texas Tech, Mahomes was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs and in just his second year in the NFL, he became a superstar. In his first-ever season as the Chiefs' starter, Mahomes won the MVP award. He then won the Super Bowl in 2020.

Patrick Mahomes is on his way to winning the second MVP award of his career this year and it has been a monumental season for him. Despite losing Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins, Mahomes was able to lead the Chiefs' offense very effectively.

He has thrown for 4,720 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 15 games this season. Apart from his excellence while throwing the ball, Mahomes has also rushed for 321 yards and four touchdowns.

Mahomes' father will always be very proud of what his son has achieved in the NFL. At such a young age, the Chiefs' quarterback already has a Hall of Fame worthy career, and it is going to get even better in the coming years for him.
