Which College Has The Most NFL Players In 2022?

Every NFL season sees college football stars make the leap into the big league, with some shining and others falling by the wayside. We are past the midway point of the season and a clearer picture of who the best rookies are is emerging. But which college football program has produced the most active NFL players in the 2022 season?

This year's draft broke records as fifteen Georgia Bulldogs players were selected in a total of seven rounds. Although the Bulldogs have done an outstanding job, they are way behind some other college football programs in terms of total NFL players active in the 2022 season.

Alabama, Ohio State, and LSU have been at the forefront of the supply chain of great talent for the NFL. The 2022 season has seen 58 active players from the Alabama lineage. In the last six years, Alabama has been the top university to feature the most players in the NFL.

There is no denying the fact that the Alabama Crimson Tide have been dominant in the NFL draft since their head coach Nick Saban was hired in 2007. They have played consistently well on the gridiron, and under Saban's guidance have won six national championships.

Saban shared earlier this year that his former Alabama players have accumulated more than $1.6 billion in NFL contracts. So you can imagine how well the Alabama players are doing in the league.

This season, Alabama is leading the way for the most players on NFL rosters ahead of Week 1 with 58. Behind them are LSU with 53, Ohio State with 51, Georgia with 43, and Notre Dame with 35 players. Alabama has been producing the most NFL players since 2019. During Nick Saban's tenure, the Crimson Tide has had the most first-round picks as well as the most total picks in that span.

When the Crimson Tide acquired Nick Saban in 2007, they were not even listed in the top 25 college football programs for active NFL players. But the tide has indeed turned since then. Last season, Alabama led the league for the fifth straight season with 50 players in the league. LSU was the only team close with 47 players and the rest had 36 or fewer.

In 2021, Alabama led the league for the fifth-straight season with the most NFL players at 54 on the opening weekend. Ohio State had 50 and LSU had 47. These were the only other teams with more than 36. As a college football program, they have been the biggest producer in the NFL draft.

The Alabama Crimson Tide college football program has produced NFL players in a wide variety of positions

The Crimson Tide program has produced a variety of quality prospects and this is seen in the distribution of positions they play in the NFL today. The have produced the following:

  • Three quarterbacks
  • Six running backs
  • Six wide receivers
  • Two tight ends
  • 10 offensive linemen
  • 11 defensive linemen
  • 5 linebackers
  • 13 defensive backs
  • One special teams player

Currently, only four NFL teams do not have an active Crimson Tide player on their roster. Those teams are the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Seattle Seahawks. The New England Patriots have the most Alabama players on their roster with six. The Atlanta Falcons, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Chargers, New Orleans Saints, and Seattle Seahawks have one player each.
