Who is Adam Peters? Meet Commanders' new GM

The Washington Commanders have hired a new general manager, Adam Peters. Washington fired GM Martin Mayhew after a disappointing 4-13 season.

On Friday, the Commanders hired the incumbent San Francisco 49ers’ assistant GM for the role. Peters will be a first-time GM in the NFL, but he has plenty of experience.

Who is Adam Peters?

Peters is currently in his 21st season in the NFL, and third as the 49ers' assistant general manager.

Peters joined San Francisco after eight seasons with the Denver Broncos. He started as a scout and worked his way up to director of college scouting.

During his tenure with the Broncos, Peters helped the team acquire 27 players through the draft and college free agency who played a role in Denver winning Super Bowl 50.

His first job in the NFL was with the New England Patriots as a scout and he was a member of the 2003 and 2004 Super Bowl-winning teams.

Before working in the NFL, Peters worked for one year as a football operations graduate assistant at UCLA. He also played college football for the Bruins as a defensive end from 1999-2001.

Peters is married to his wife, Jennifer, and the couple has two daughters, Alexandra and Emilia.

Washington Commanders' other hires

Along with hiring Adam Peters to be their new GM, the Washington Commanders will also need to hire a new head coach after firing Ron Rivera.

But, before the Peters hire was finalized, longtime Golden State Warriors executive Bob Myers was asked to help out with the search for their next head coach and front office staff.

"Bob Myers is a winner," Washington Commanders managing partner Josh Harris said. "Who wouldn't want him on your team trying to help your franchise? He knows how to identify talent. He knows how to build winning franchises, winning cultures."

Along with Meyers, former Minnesota Vikings GM Rick Spielman will also help in the search for a new head coach.

"Rick Spielman brings a wealth of football knowledge, the ins and outs of football," Harris said. "He was Executive of the Year with the Vikings, with many other teams, and kind of brings that knowledge of football that you need when you're interviewing candidates."

Spielman was the Vikings GM from 2012 to 2021. After hiring Adam Peters, the next step for the Commanders is to hire a head coach.
