Melvin Gordon or Kareem Hunt: Who is a better fantasy pick?

Choosing between Melvin Gordon or Kareem Hunt for the remainder of the campaign is difficult for fantasy football players. However, the RBs are two of the most exceptional players in the NFL.

While Melvin Gordon, a running back for the Denver Broncos, is approaching the conclusion of his NFL career, he is still an effective player. He returned to Denver to back up Javonte Williams after failing to find a new team that is ready to offer him a starting position.

Gordon's activities were restricted again on Friday. He'll probably need to participate in a full training session on Saturday to be taken off the injury report. In the event that Gordon plays in Week 6, he is rated as a mid-to-low RB2 against the Chargers.

There's nothing to indicate that Melvin Gordon's availability for Monday night's match against the Chargers is in doubt. Still, to avoid playing with a designation, he'll probably need to be classified as fully fit in Saturday's training.

Kareem Hunt's showdown with the New England Patriots will be more difficult than normal. It's not unexpected that Bill Belichick's defensive unit is performing admirably. However, given that Hunt has only had one goal-to-go chance in his last two outings, scoring this week seems less likely.

Melvin Gordon and Kareem Hunt - key stats

Melvin Gordon played 56 percent of the snaps in his first start since Javonte Williams' injury, handled 18 touches, and accumulated 93 total yards in a tough contest against the Colts. However, in terms of breakaway run rate, juke rate, yards per touch, and dodged tackles, he ranks outside the top 35 running backs.

Fortunately for Melvin Gordon, this is a simpler contest. The Chargers rank 28th in run EPA per play and 24th in rushing yards per game. This season, the most fantasy points per game and the most yards per carry for running backs have been against the Chargers.

Given the amount of time spent in the red zone in the week, Gordon is a safe bet for 20 touches. Gordon, though, has rib and neck problems and has been rated as doubtful. He is an RB1/2 at best.

Kareem Hunt hasn't performed at Chubb's pace, but with 14.2 touches and 66 total yards a match this campaign, he has been the RB17. Unfortunately, Hunt's per-touch effectiveness has decreased, as he currently ranks 32nd in yards per route run, 30th in PFF's elusive rating, and 28th in yards after contact per attempt.

Kareem Hunt outperforms Chubb in the red zone, but the high-value touches keep him in the low-end RB category. The Patriots are still 27th in DVOA despite not allowing a receiving touchdown to a running back while also giving up the second-highest yards per reception and the seventh-most receiving yards.

In a 30-28 defeat to the Chargers in Week 5, Kareem Hunt ran the ball in 11 instances for 47 yards and a touchdown while adding 10 yards on three catches. Although he has double-digit carries and receptions in each game thus far, his typical cap of 15 carries slightly limits his potential.
