George Pickens completed his higher education at Hoover High School in Alabama, the state where he was born. He works hard and finished his senior year with 69 catches for 1,368 yards and 16 touchdowns. He participated in the Under Armor All-American Game in 2019.

He was a five-star recruit who had previously settled to play collegiate football for Auburn University, before switching to the University of Georgia. Pickens was the team's leader in catches, receiving yards, and receiving TDs during his first year at Georgia in 2019. He was given playing time right away.
