Why is Trevor Siemian starting for the Bears vs. Jets?

Trevor Siemian is starting in place of Justin Fields

The Chicago Bears were already without Justin Fields today and were nearly forced to start Nathan Peterman after a bizarre pregame. However, Trevor Siemian, the backup quarterback, is starting today after a brief injury scare.

Fields, according to his own statement, separated his shoulder last week against the Atlanta Falcons and tore ligaments. He was questionable to play and was ruled out ahead of game time.

That left backup Trevor Siemian to play, but according to Adam Schefter, the got hurt in warmups, which left the Bears almost in a very precarious situation.

The NFL reporter tweeted:

"Nathan Peterman now will be the Bears starting QB today. Trevor Siemian, who was supposed to start, hurt his oblique during warmups and now will serve as the No. 2 to Peterman. David Montgomery will be the Bears’ emergency QB."

However, Siemian was fine to play after warmups, as the injury was not as serious as initially thought. That spares the team from having to run an entire game with a third-string quarterback and a running back as the backup option.

Montgomery would have been the backup QB

Chicago will probably run the ball quite a bit since they are on a backup quarterback anyway stays healthy as they try to play spoiler to the Jets who are clinging to desperate playoff hopes.

Chicago is all but eliminated, so they will try to ruin other team's plans for the remaining few weeks of the season.

Has Nathan Peterman played a game this season?

Peterman has not appeared in a game yet this season as Fields has been mostly healthy and his backup, Siemian, has not missed much time, either. That probably won't change today unless something happens mid-game.

Peterman is Siemian's backup, but a change is unlikely, which would keep him from appearing this season yet.
