Fans on X were frustrated after the Washington Commanders suffered a heartbreaking 34-26 loss to the Dallas Cowboys at Northwest Stadium on Sunday. The defeat featured a wild fourth-quarter sequence that included a missed extra point. It also featured multiple special teams blunders and two spectacular touchdowns.
The social media storm highlighted fans' disbelief at what play-by-play announcer Joe Davis dubbed the "worst special teams day in history." Three slow quarters gave way to an explosive final frame that saw Washington's hopes crumble despite a valiant comeback attempt.
The chaotic finish began when Cowboys return specialist KaVontae Turpin fielded a bouncing kickoff at his 1-yard line. Despite the ball initially rolling through his legs, Turpin executed a devastating spin move. His 99-yard return touchdown pushed Dallas to a two-possession lead late in the fourth quarter.

The Washington Commanders showed resilience. Jayden Daniels completed a perfect 7-for-7 passing sequence earlier in the quarter, including a touchdown to Zach Ertz. He followed that with a successful 2-point conversion keeper. Then, with just 30 seconds remaining, Daniels found Terry McLaurin for an 86-yard touchdown.
Down by just one point, the Commanders faced a crucial decision. They chose the traditionally safer extra-point attempt over going for two. Austin Seibert, who was perfect all season, pushed his kick wide left. The Cowboys recovered the ensuing onside kick attempt and returned it for a touchdown.
"The absolute worst possible way to lose a game that is insane," one fan said.
"The amount of mistakes in the game by Washington was laughable," another added.
Other reactions emphasized the shocking nature of the collapse.
"Today has been nuts," one user observed.
"Dumbest game of the day," another fan said.
"Holly c**p," a fan wrote.
While one fan demanded;
"Fire his ass today!"
Washington Commanders' special teams nightmare overshadows Daniels' heroics

The missed extra point capped a disastrous special teams performance that included a blocked field goal, a missed field goal and a blocked punt. Earlier, a critical defensive play had given Washington hope. Dallas safety Donovan Wilson forced a fumble from John Bates, leading to quarterback Cooper Rush finding Luke Schoonmaker for a touchdown.
Daniels' final Hail Mary attempt was intercepted as time expired, sealing Washington's third straight defeat. The loss dropped the Washington Commanders to 7-5, while Dallas snapped their five-game losing streak to improve to 4-7.
The Commanders will look to break their skid when they host the Tennessee Titans next Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
