Zach Wilson torched by NFL fans amid Week 12 benching vs Bears

Zach Wilson shocked at turn of events

Zach Wilson was drafted by the New York Jets to save the franchise. Instead, the 6-4 team found a way to ascend despite him throwing for fewer touchdowns than interceptions. Earlier this week, rumblings of the tide turning on Wilson reached a fever pitch and now the quarterback has been benched, according to Adam Schefter.

Fans swarmed to the post to throw virtual tomatoes at the quarterback, roasting him by the hundreds. Here's a look at some of the sentiments:

Who will play for the New York Jets instead of Zach Wilson?

After benching Zach Wilson, the New York Jets had a couple of options to start. After a brief process, the team named Mike White to start over Super Bowl Champion Joe Flacco, according to Adam Schefter.

They elected to go with the more recent flash than the brighter one that occurred a decade ago. In his career, White has started three games, going 1-2 in his time in the league. The entirety of his playing career came in 2021, when he threw for five touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Flacco has already played multiple games this season, going 1-2. In his three years with the Jets, he has gone 1-7. His first win with the team happened this year. It was only his third win since leaving the Baltimore Ravens after the 2018 season due to Lamar Jackson's resurgence.

Overall, since winning the Super Bowl in 2012, the quarterback has been on a downward trajectory, seeing the Jets elect to go in a new direction.

While Zach Wilson's time as a starter could be over, the head coach said that the quarterback's career with the team wasn't over, according to Schefter. Of course, those comments have many wondering how the quarterback could remain with the team for much longer.

The team already has two other backup quarterbacks, so the act of benching him puts him on a level with two established entities that are cheaper. The only remaining explanation is that Saleh is merely putting Wilson on a "time-out" until he can prove to be an accountable leader in the locker room.
