NFL fans grill former Eagles star for offering questionable advice to Lamar Jackson over playoff availability

Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens are set to face off in the Wild Card round of the playoffs versus their AFC North rivals the Cincinnati Bengals. The Ravens' star has missed the team's last five games with a knee injury. As Baltimore prepares to face the Bengals, former NFL quarterback Michael Vick had some choice words for the 2019 NFL MVP.

The former Atlanta Falcons quarterback spoke on Jackson's hesitation about playing with the injury on FOX's pregame show. Here's what Vick said:

“It’s the playoffs, you’re three games away. Put a brace on it. Get it going. Put a brace on it, let’s go. . . . I played a whole season with a torn MCL.”

Many NFL fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Vick's advice to the Ravens' young quarterback.

In 12 starts this season, Jackson has thrown for 2,242 yards, 17 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. NFL insider Ian Rapoport noted that Jackson would be at little risk of reinjuring his knee if he started against the Bengals. However, the All-Pro quarterback made it clear that he’s not playing since his knee isn't at 100 per cent.

Last season, Lamar Jackson missed the Ravens’ only playoff game with a bone bruise on his ankle. It seems that we could end up seeing a similar situation this season. Jackson's teammate, wide receiver Sammy Watkins, spoke to the Washington Post about his quarterback's status.

Watkins said:

“In this league, everybody is pretty much banged up, hurt. I don’t want to speak for him and his situation and whatever he’s going through with the contracts. I don’t know what world he’s in. But for me, you got a chance to do something special."
"We all know with Lamar Jackson out there, this team is really freaking good, and special things can happen. He can will this team to a Super Bowl. I don’t think he’s thinking about it that way. . . .”

Does the question now remain what the Ravens will do with their franchise signal-caller long-term?

Will Lamar Jackson be playing for the Ravens next season or elsewhere?

The Baltimore Ravens have three options when it comes to Lamar Jackson. To begin with, Baltimore could apply the non-exclusive tag to the quarterback. It would be much cheaper than the exclusive tag, and it would give other franchises the opportunity to talk with Jackson and sign him to an offer sheet. Secondly, the team could let Jackson become a free agent.

Lastly, the Ravens could give the transition tag to Jackson, which is even more inexpensive than the non-exclusive franchise tag. The transition tag could be the ideal middle ground between allowing Jackson to hit the open market. This could hinder his potential with the necessary compensation. Nonetheless, we'll see what happens with Lamar Jackson this upcoming off-season.
