While every position is important in football, the quarterback position may be the most important one in the NFL.

Quarterbacks are typically the leaders of the team and run the offense. One of the main ingredients of success for an NFL team is having a good leader at the quarterback position who can lead the team on a Super Bowl run.

Every offseason, struggling teams will draft their potential future quarterbacks, sign one in free agency, or trade for one to improve their team.

In some instances, teams are lucky and find their next franchise QB. In other instances, the opposite happens and teams fall back in their status of rebuilding/making a playoff run.

This past offseason, many QBs have found new homes and not all of them have had success.

Here are three NFL QBs playing for a new team who have had a down season thus far.

#3 - Russell Wilson

Perhaps one of the biggest trades of the last decade happened this offseason when the Denver Broncos acquired Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.

Denver gave up multiple draft picks and players for Wilson to be their next franchise quarterback as they rebuild.

However, the former Super Bowl-winning quarterback has underperformed thus far. Through six games, he has a 2-4 record while completing a career-low 58.6% of his passes and throwing for less than a touchdown a game (5 total TDs).

Before the season started, Wilson signed a five-year, $245 million contract extension with the Broncos and has yet to play to that value.

#2 - Carson Wentz

Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz is on his third team in the last three seasons. After the Indianapolis Colts acquired him last season from the Philadelphia Eagles, they traded him after one season to the Commanders.

Wentz has been statistically solid for Washington, throwing for 1,489 yards, 10 touchdowns, and six interceptions with a passer rating of 84.1.

However, winning has become an issue for the Commanders as they are just 2-4 and in last place in the NFL's highly-competitive NFC East. Wentz fractured his finger in their match against the Chicago Bears and is expected to miss the next four to six games.

#1 - Baker Mayfield

When the Cleveland Browns acquired Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans this offseason, the team quickly shipped Baker Mayfield off to the Carolina Panthers.

On July 6, 2022, Mayfield was traded to the Panthers for a conditional fifth-round pick in 2024.

In five starts for the Panthers this season, Mayfield is 1-4 with four touchdowns, four interceptions and a low passer rating of 71.9. With 962 passing yards, he is averaging less than 200 a game.
