#3 - Nick Bosa - 12 sacks
The San Francisco 49ers have been enjoying some great success. They have turned their season around and have won three of their last four games. That has a lot to do with Nick Bosa, who has returned to his sacking ways. He currently sits in third place with 12 sacks.
Bosa has managed to log five sacks in his last four games. Bosa's return to sacking the quarterback is a welcome sight, especially since he tore his ACL and was left with no sacks in the 2020 season. He impressed in his rookie season with nine sacks on the year, and it seems he has returned to proper form. Bosa's playing lights out will allow the 49ers to retain their wild-card playoff spot.
#2 - Myles Garrett - 14 sacks
The king of the sack total has been replaced. Myles Garrett has finally dropped down to second place in the entire league for sacks; however, that was because the Cleveland Browns were on their bye week. There is no telling what he could have done had they been playing.
However, Garrett is heavily in talks about being the DPOTY, and should he regain his title and remain #1 in the league for sacks, he should be a shoo-in for defensive honors.
#1 - T.J. Watt - 16 sacks
T.J. Watt has finally returned to the top of the sacks leaderboard. He currently has 16 sacks on the season and is eyeing, not only the DPOTY title, but he could be attempting to overtake the single-season sack total. Michael Strahan set a 22.5 sack record in the 2001 season, and Watt might be able to surpass that total this season.
There are five games left in the season for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Watt would need a minimum of 6.5 sacks to match Strahan. Watt was able to get 3.5 sacks against Lamar Miller, and should he achieve that number again, he might be looking at a new single-season sack record.
