NFL Trade Rumors: Analyst reveals why Packers aren't moving on from Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers is once again making headlines, this time regarding his future with the Green Bay Packers this offseason. The four-time NFL MVP has spent his entire 18-year NFL career with the franchise.

A major question is will the team trade the 39-year-old quarterback. On the ESPN morning show Get Up, analyst Dominique Foxworth explained why the Packers won't trade Rodgers.

Foxworth said:

"I would laugh in your face if I was Aaron Rodgers because he has the leverage. The reason why they were able to treat Brett Favre was because Aaron Rodgers was cold. He was a great damn quarterback. All right, go do whatever you want to do.
"If Jordan Love had been the player that they wanted him to be off the bat, they would have already gotten rid of Aaron Rodgers. So like all this tough talk from the Packers now. It's like you signed up for this over and over again. You took your shot and you missed, but now that you've missed, I'm in charge."

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers finished the season with an 8-9 record, missing out on the playoffs for the first time since the 2018 season. The 10-time Pro Bowler threw for 3,695 yards, 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions this season. Nonetheless, questions are swirling as to what will happen to the four-time All-Pro as his contract could be a pivotal factor in his decision.

Aaron Rodgers on his contract and willingness to lessen it for 2023

Rodgers signed a three-year, $150 million contract extension last March and will earn nearly $60 million guaranteed next season should he play. In a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers commented that he would be open to reducing that massive guaranteed amount of money if he does play next season.

Rodgers said:

"There's a lot of teams, because of COVID, that are strapped, and you're seeing with a lot of different contracts, they're pushing more money out in deals. They're creating void years to allow for an easier cap hit, so there would have to be some adjustments, for sure."

There are reports that teams like the New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders could be possible destinations should the Packers decide to trade Rodgers. We'll see if the Super Bowl-winning quarterback stays with Green Bay for a 19th season, play elsewhere, or hangs up the cleats this offseason.
