Aaron Rodgers has been linked with the Jets over the course of the offseason as he's likely to move on from the Packers. Yet, what happens if the Packers and Jets cannot reach a trade involving the four-time NFL MVP? Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk suggested that another veteran quarterback could be Plan B for the Jets if they cannot land Rodgers.

Florio has thrown out Rams QB Matthew Stafford as an alternative and explains why the former number-one overall pick could be an option.

Florio said:

"Would it be crazy for the Rams to trade Stafford only two seasons after giving up Jared Goff, two first-round picks, and a third-round pick to get Stafford? Absolutely. But trading him before Friday would be the only way to avoid having another $57 million in future compensation to become fully guaranteed.

Florio added:

The Jets currently are prepared to pay Aaron Rodgers nearly $60 million for what could be only one year of employment. Stafford’s $57 million covers 2023 and 2024. That makes it easy for the Jets to justify the move, financially."

Matthew Stafford joined the Los Angeles Rams in January 2021 in a trade after 12 seasons with the Detroit Lions. The former Georgia Bulldogs star led the Rams to a Super Bowl win in his first season with the team. He signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension last March but is reportedly on the trade block.

Aaron Rodgers looks more likely to be playing for the New York Jets come the start of the 2023 season. However, would Stafford be the better option for the Jets over Rodgers?

Would the Jets consider a move for Stafford over Aaron Rodgers?

At this stage, it seems rather unlikely that the Jets will look to make a deal with the Rams as they're in discussions with the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay gave the green light to their 39-year-old quarterback to speak with the team. Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner has been heavily recruiting the 18-year NFL veteran via social media.

The Defensive Rookie of the Year from the previous season burned a Cheesehead in a video posted on his YouTube channel. He wore it after the Jets' victory over the Packers at Lambeau Field last year.

The Jets are currently focused on acquiring Rodgers, but if they are unsuccessful in their pursuit of the Packers star this offseason, they may turn to Stafford.
