Ray Davis 2024 NFL Draft Projection: 3 best landing spots for Kentucky Wildcats RB

NFL Combine
Which teams should pursue Ray Davis?

Ray Davis is among a number of running back prospects in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.

He initially played for Temple, then Vanderbilt, before settling on Kentucky as a senior. In his only season as a Wildcat, he dominated despite playing only five games, rushing for a dozen touchdowns as he made the All-SEC first team.

So which teams would want Davis? First, though, what is he really like as a player?

Ray Davis Draft profile

Ray Davis is a dynamic rusher, who loves to slice and smash through defenses and gain plenty of yards, especially when turning the corner. At Kentucky, though, he found his big-number potential, particularly running over the highly-esteemed Florida Gators to the tune of 280 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

He is also surprisingly adept at pass-catching, and had a career-best five scores in the air as a Wildcat.

3) Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts already have a good offense.

Barring an unforeseen complication, quarterback Anthony Richardson is set to return from his shoulder injury. Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce figure to be the wide receiver tandem of the future. And their exploits have been aided by Pro Bowl linemen Ryan Kelly and Quenton Nelson.

Then there is Jonathan Taylor. The running back finally got his big-money extension a few weeks into the 2023 season, but he has lost his backup, Zack Moss, to the Cincinnati Bengals. Davis could be the right man for the job.

2) Cincinnati Bengals

Speaking of Zack Moss and the Cincinnati Bengals, they also need a quality backup.

Chase Brown, Chris Evans and Trayveon Williams have not become the high-performance relievers that the team needs. Getting their hands on Ray Davis and his big-play potential is a must.

1) Los Angeles Chargers

Jim Harbaugh loves ground-based offensive onslaughts. It was seen during his tenure with the San Francisco 49ers, where Frank Gore became one of the best running backs in the league and during his tenure with the Michigan Wolverines, where Blake Corum broke program records.

At the Los Angeles Chargers, he has a chance to do that again with Gus Edwards. But who else is there? Austin Ekeler is gone, and the rest of the rushing room does not cut it.

Davis and his small, agile frame would represent a perfect complement to the bruising style of "Gus the Bus."
