The San Francisco 49ers added depth to their wide receiver corps this offseason by drafting Florida wide receiver Ricky Pearsall with the 31st overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Pearsall was viewed as a guy who could have a big rookie season with defenses focusing their attention on Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.
However, shortly before the 49ers' season opener against the New York Jets, Pearsall wound up in the hospital due to a gunshot wound. A 17-year-old shot him during an attempted robbery.
The bullet entered his right chest and exited near his armpit. It did not hit any vital organs.

After being shot nine days before the San Francisco 49ers' season opener, Ricky Pearsall was placed on the NFI (non-football injury) list and has missed the first four games of the season.
It will be at least another week before Pearsall returns to the field as he will not play in this weekend's game against the Arizona Cardinals. NFL reporter Adam Schefter gave an update about him on Wednesday.
49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said in his press conference on Wednesday that he felt Pearsall wasn't ready to return yet. It sounds as if the team will handle his situation on a week-to-week basis, with the hope that he returns sooner rather than later.
"We'll see when he gets back to practice and we'll judge by that," Shanahan said. "I really don't make any judgments until I see guys go through the practice week... I get excited when guys come off IR whenever they do, just to get them back into practice. And that's really the first time you see them do any football stuff and you kind of make the decision as the week goes.”
The San Francisco 49ers will look to win second straight game this week against the Arizona Cardinals

After a Week 1 victory against the Jets, the San Francisco 49ers suffered back-to-back losses. They lost 23-17 to the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2 and 27-24 to the LA Rams in Week 3.
Last week, the 49ers got back in the win column against the New England Patriots (30-13) and are now 2-2 for the season.
After an early-season skid, the 49ers will look to get back to their winning ways by going on their first win streak. They will face their division rival the Arizona Cardinals (1-3) on the road at 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday. The 49ers are currently 7.5-point favorites.
