The Washington Commanders have had a major turnaround. From being perennial last-placers in the NFC East, they have become the indisputable leaders of the division at 6-2.
And that is all thanks to Jayden Daniels, the second overall pick of this year's Draft who has captivated the hearts of fans and analysts alike with his dual-threat ability. And at least one of the latter believes that his offensive corps should only get better.
CBS's Tyler Sullivan wrote on Tuesday that general manager Adam Peters should target the Cincinnati Bengals' Tee Higgins, who is on a $21.8-million franchise tag:
"(The Commanders) could use a pass catcher to further build around Daniels. And if the Bengals fall further below .500 between now and the deadline, what bigger swing could GM Adam Peters make than dealing for Higgins?"
"The Bengals didn't pay him this offseason and he is set to be a free agent. If they are out of the playoff race and don't plan on re-signing Higgins, it'd make sense to get a blue-chip asset in return for him while they still can."
What does Tee Higgins bring to Commanders?
With 29 catches for 341 yards and three touchdowns, Higgins is the Bengals' second-best receiver. However, he has also been seeing increased competition for playing time from sophomore Andre Iosivas, who has taken on a much larger role in the absence of now-Tennessee Titan Tyler Boyd.
In Landover, he can provide an immediate upgrade to WR2, partnering with veteran Terry McLaurin to form a very potent deep-threat duo. Alongside running back Brian Robinson Jr. and tight end Zach Ertz, they should form a monstrous offensive corps for Daniels.
Two cornerbacks also mentioned in Commanders trade rumors
Besides the aforementioned offense, the Commanders also boast one of the most talented front sevens in football. Defensive tackles Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne, and Jer'Zhan Newton man the interior, paving the way for pass rushers like Dante Fowler Jr. and play-stoppers like Bobby Wagner.
However, their secondary is one area that could use an upgrade. As of now, they are in the bottom quarter (25th) in passing yards allowed. And that is where two potential targets come in.
First, Heavy's Tony Adame mentions Tre'Davious White, who has received permission from the Los Angeles Rams to seek a trade amidst a three-game stretch where he was a healthy scratch.
Head coach Sean McVay had said on Monday:
"We'd like to be able to keep him here, but if that is something that he and his agent want to be able to explore, we're obviously respectfully understanding of that. And so the answer is yes."
Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox, meanwhile, suggests Jonathan Jones, one of the last remaining holdovers from the second half of the New England Patriots' Tom Brady-Bill Belichick dynasty era.
