NFL Rumors: Bobby Wagner-Seahawks reunion still on the cards in 2023

Los Angeles Rams linebacker Bobby Wagner is currently a free agent. After the Rams released the veteran linebacker last week, several teams are reportedly interested in his services.

Per Gregg Bell of the News Tribune, the Seattle Seahawks are interested in re-signing the star linebacker. Having been drafted by Seattle in 2012, the linebacker made his mark before leaving the franchise for the Rams last year.

Given that Wagner was cut, the Seahawks could offer the 32-year-old a new deal, albeit on a smaller salary to entice him back to where it all began.

After winning the Super Bowl with the Seahawks and spending the majority of his stellar career in Seattle, Wagner could look at one last ride with the team that gave him so much.

The Seahawks would not be the only team interested in securing the linebacker's services as Super Bowl contenders would look at Wagner as possibly the missing piece to their defense.

The Dallas Cowboys have been rumored as a potential suitor as the linebacker and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn could reunite. Given how Quinn has turned around the Cowboys defense, adding the 32-year-old could be the missing piece for the unit.

Could Wagner work in Seattle?

The linebacker signed a five-year, $50 million contract with the Rams in 2022 and is slated to make $7.5 million in 2023 and $8.5 million in 2024. So, it is likely that if Seattle wants the 32-year-old, a salary around that is needed to entice him back.

Seattle's defense wasn't the best last season, ranking 25th in points allowed as they gave up 23.6 per game. So, adding a player like the 32-year-old could help bring that number down.

There is something nostalgic about a star player returning to where it began, and for the veteran linebacker, getting the franchise he won a Super Bowl with back into contention would be high on his priority list.

Whether or not the move happens remains to be seen, but if reports are to be true, then there is at least a thought it could happen from both sides.
