Could Dan Snyder be just a short time away from selling the Washington Commanders?

Speculation has grown recently that Dan Snyder is closer than ever to selling the Washington Commanders. Just last week, he and his wife Tanya cleared out their offices at the team facility and now it appears that another recent move may indicate an impending sale.

According to a recent article by Ben Standig of The Athletic, Dan Snyder isn't currently paying the signing bonus for the newly signed contracts. Recent contracts that were signed typically see the signing bonus paid out within two to four weeks, at most. In this case, the signing bonuses won't be paid for two months after the contract is signed.

According to Standig's report, recent signees, quarterback Jacoby Brissett and defensive tackle Daron Payne aren't scheduled to receive their signing bonuses until May 12, 2023 as detailed in their new contracts.

This indicates that the new owner of the Washington Commanders would be responsible for paying those signing bonuses. It will allow Snyder to approve the addition of new players and yet not be financially responsible for paying them.

Just another indication that the sale of the Washington Commanders is likely to come even before the 2023 NFL Draft at the end of April. With rumors circulating that many believe it could be completed before the NFL owners' meeting next week.

What are the new allegations against Dan Snyder?

The allegations against Dan Snyder continue and it doesn't appear that selling the Washington Commanders will get him out of trouble. An investigation by former SEC Chief Mary Jo White has discovered discrepancies in the financial documents for the team.

It appears that the Commanders had two books, one which had the actual financial documents and the other that was given to the NFL. The latter held back ticket revenue so that it appeared that Washington sold fewer tickets and wouldn't need to pay additional taxes and/or fees.

But, another new insight may bring even more allegations against him. White's investigation is currently focused on a $55 million loan that he took out and a waiver that he received from the league. The NFL approved the $450 million debt that Snyder accumulated, saying that he used the money to buy out the other minority owners of the team.

White also discovered that Snyder was paying himself a salary, which isn't illegal, but if he used the money that he received the waiver to pay himself, that is where the issue lies.
