Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos' abysmal performance in the 14-51 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams was the final straw for their new owners. Head coach Nathaniel Hackett was fired by the Broncos last night and wasn't even allowed to complete the season.

Although Hackett's coaching has been questioned this season, Wilson's poor play has also held the Broncos back from being competitive. Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings believes Wilson owes Hackett an apology because he was one of the reasons why the head coach got fired.

Here's what Greg Jennings said about how Wilson is responsible for Nathaniel Hackett getting fired by the Broncos:

"Russell Wilson needs to get up to a podium and apologize... Athough Nathaniel Hackett brought a lot of this on himself, Russell Wilson, oh my god, you literally got somebody fired… Wilson owes a lot of people in that organization and that locker room."

Jennings isn't the only analyst in the NFL world who feels Wilson is entirely responsible for Hackett's firing. While Wilson doubtless played a part, this seems a little shortsighted. A lot of factors played into the decision, ranging from on-field performance, morale around the team, win-loss record and the owners' confidence in Hackett being lost. Wilson has been very poor this season, but there haven't been many positives in Denver.

The Denver Broncos have a record of 4-11 after Week 16 and won't even have their own first-round pick for the 2023 NFL Draft. The situation in Denver is pretty rough, and the front office needs to bring in a quality head coach who can improve Wilson's performance.

Denver looks to be a real challenge for a head coach, considering the circumstances the franchise is in due to the trade that brought Wilson. The front office will have the whole offseason to think about that and likely have to pay a top-tier coach a lot of money to turn them around.

Russell Wilson has hit rock bottom

Wilson has been criticized heavily throughout the season, and he is at the lowest point of his career. Everyone seems to be blaming him for the downfall of the Broncos.

He has thrown for 3,019 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions in 13 games this season. With Hackett now fired, if Wilson doesn't improve on the field, he will face even more criticism.

This season is already over for the Broncos, and now Wilson needs to make sure that he comes out all guns blazing now and next season. A new head coach will be hired by the Broncos to maximize Wilson's capabilities.

But if that doesn't work, the franchise could be in a lot of trouble unless Wilson calls it a day and ultimately retires. The entire league will keep tabs on what the Broncos will do in the offseason as they have too many questions to answer.

Until then, Russell Wilson will have to spend the final two games proving himself to the NFL world. If they can't win, Denver have to at least show some real heart and grit and leave it all out there on the field. The truth is that it's not just the defeats, but rather, their manner, that's been a huge part of the problem.
