The San Francisco 49ers are one win away from making it to another Super Bowl. Kyle Shanahan's side will lock horns with the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2023 NFC Championship game on Sunday to qualify for the all-important game.

While the Niners will be focused on their crunch matchup against the Eagles for the NFC title, fans have been keen to learn about the team's history in the Super Bowl.

The 49ers have made it to the Super Bowl eight times. They have emerged victorious on five occasions.

San Francisco is also one of eight different NFL teams to win back-to-back Super Bowls. With another win, San Francisco will join the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers as the teams with the most championships of all time.

When was the last time the San Francisco 49ers won the Super Bowl?

Although the San Francisco 49ers have made recent appearances in the Super Bowl, they have not won a championship since the 1994 season. They beat the San Diego Chargers to lift the title but have failed to win the Super Bowl in their last two appearances.

The Niners lost to the Baltimore Ravens in 2013 and then to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2020. Here is a list of all the Super Bowl appearances made by the San Francisco 49ers:

  • 2019 season: Lost Super Bowl LIV vs. the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-20
  • 2012 season: Lost Super Bowl XLVII vs. the Baltimore Ravens, 34-31
  • 1994 season: Won Super Bowl XXIX vs. the San Diego Chargers, 49-26
  • 1989 season: Won Super Bowl XXIV vs. the Denver Broncos, 55-10
  • 1988 season: Won Super Bowl XXIII vs. the Cincinnati Bengals, 20-16
  • 1984 season: Won Super Bowl XIX vs. the Miami Dolphins, 38-16
  • 1981 season: Won Super Bowl XVI vs. the Cincinnati Bengals, 26-21

However, the Niners will be hoping to end their 27-year wait without a Super Bowl this season. Their third-string quarterback Brock Purdy has led the team expertly since Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo's season-ending injuries.
