One of the biggest surprises for the San Francisco 49ers in 2024 has been the ascension of wide receiver Jauan Jennings. A beloved player for his third-down contributions, Jennings took advantage of Aiyuk's poor run to start the year strongly.
However, in Week 5's game against the Arizona Cardinals, it was back to being Brandon Aiyuk's show, as the #1 receiver finished the game with over 100 receiving yards. With Christian McCaffrey close to returning as well, should you consider dropping the wide receiver from your fantasy roster?
Should I drop Jauan Jennings for Week 5 fantasy football?

It's still not time to let Jennings leave your roster. Even though Aiyuk is always going to demand the highest share of targets, he has seen a bigger share as well due to Deebo Samuel and George Kittle's declining production at the same time.

San Francisco has shifted to an offensive style where they ask more of their receivers in vertical routes and less from their traditional yards-after-catch method. This benefits Jennings, who's a crafty route runner who knows how to find space in the middle of the defensive zones and use his body to make tough catches.
He suffered a small injury in Week 5 against the Cardinals, but quickly returned to the game. The offense completely stalled in the second half with Jake Moody injured, leading to a comeback win for Arizona; still, as the season goes on, he remains an important piece for the team.
Jauan Jennings' fantasy outlook for the rest of 2024
He will resemble the production of a solid WR2 until Christian McCaffrey returns from injury, but in leagues with a bigger number of teams, he will remain a good option to have on the roster, especially in matchups where San Francisco will have to pass the ball a lot.
This is not a team that's dominating through the ground as in previous years, which obviously bodes well for their wide receivers. With bye weeks now starting to come for all teams, don't drop Jauan Jennings from your roster just yet - he still has a part to play.
