Skip Bayless came under heavy criticism for his insensitive tweet following Damar Hamlin's in-game cardiac arrest on Monday night. The safety was rushed to the hospital, leading to the NFL's decision to postpone the game between the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals.

However, sports commentator Bayless appeared to show less concern for Hamlin. Going by his tweet, the NFL analyst was more worried about the game being brought to a halt. This irked many football fans and players, who called out Bayless for his inhumane personality.

The 71-year-old later apologized for the misunderstanding caused by his tweet. However, many were curious to know exactly who Bayless was. Many questioned his upbringing, where he studied, along with his compassion for fellow sportspeople during that time.

Bayless grew up in Oklahoma City and attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, where he majored in English and history. He was devoted to his studies and graduated cum laude in 1974.

During his time at the university, Bayless was the sports editor of The Hustler, which was a local student newspaper. He also spent the summer of 1969 interning under sports editor Frank Boggs at The Daily Oklahoman.

Prior to his career as a sports commentator for the NFL, Bayless wrote for several national sports publications. He has also worked in sports radio and has written three books.
