Tress Way, a punter with the Washington Redskins, was honored in December 2019 when he was selected for his first Pro Bowl, and now is receiving a sizable cheque to go along with it.

Way extended his contract with the Washington outfit, signing a $15 million contract. He received $6.415 million in guarantees and a $3 million signing bonus. The deal includes yearly per-game incentives.

Earlier this week, Tress Way was selected for the 2023 Pro Bowl. After fans, other players, and coaches selected the league's top players, the votes were made public on Wednesday.

Without a doubt, the honor deserves to go to the top punter. He punts for 47 yards on average, for a net of 43.6 yards and leads the league with 30 punts downed inside the 20-yard line. Way only allows opponents to average six yards per return against him, ranked top-4 in the league.

He is an asset to Washington's exceptional defensive performances and is frequently called to punt Washington out of jams when the offensive unit fails, which he typically accomplishes. Before this season, Way had only played in one Pro Bowl, where he was also selected to the second team of All-Pros.

Tress Way's journey through the NFL

Tress Way played for the Oklahoma Sooners during his first year at the University of Oklahoma. From the 2009 to 2012 seasons, he took part in 53 games.

He had a career-high punt of 85 yards and recorded an average of 44.0 yards per punt. Ninety-one of his 250 punts were inside the 20-yard line, and 71 were for 50 yards or more. In December 2012, Way graduated from Oklahoma with a bachelor's degree.

The Chicago Bears then took him in to battle Adam Podlesh for a starting role. The Bears released him after that year. He later re-signed with the Bears for the 2014 offseason, but in August of that year, he was released again.

The Washington Commanders signed Tress Way in the same month. He averaged 45.3 yards per punt in the first off-season game he played for the squad. After Robert Malone was let go, he took over as their starter for the 2014 campaign.

He had the highest gross punting rate in the NFL for the 2014 campaign and completed his debut campaign with 77 punts totaling 3,659 net yards.
