Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Trey Palmer sustained a concussion during the team's victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4. He was still in concussion protocol last week as a result, missing the Bucs' Week 5 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday.

A player who has had a concussion is required by the league to receive clearance from an independent neurologist before he can be allowed to return. It now appears Palmer has not yet been cleared, as he was unavailable for the first practice of this week for Tampa Bay on Wednesday.

Considering the lack of evident progress in his recuperation from the head injury he sustained in Week 4, Palmer might miss his second straight game for the Bucs on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.

However, the second-year pass catcher will have two more opportunities to get back to practice this week on Thursday and Friday. He will increase his chances of playing in Week 6 if he can record full practice attendance prior to game day.

Trey Palmer doesn't have as good of a chance of being available this weekend as fellow receivers Jalen McMillan (hamstring) and Kameron Johnson (ankle), who also appeared on Wednesday’s injury report. They were both limited during the Bucs' first practice of the week.

Whatever happens with Palmer, the Buccaneers are still expected to start wideouts Chris Godwin and Mike Evans on Sunday. Over the past two weeks, Sterling Shepard has been the Bucs' third-string wide receiver after those two.

Trey Palmer injury update: What happened to the Bucs' WR?

Trey Palmer suffered an injury to the head for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first half of the Week 4 game. He was immediately ruled out for the rest of the game.

Jalen McMillan was also ruled out for that game due to a hamstring injury just before kickoff, and Palmer moved up the depth chart for that contest.

Palmer, 23, left the game against Philly after recording three receptions for 26 yards and a touchdown.

Many expected Palmer to return to practice on Wednesday, but he was DNP again, leaving a big doubt over his potential involvement in Week 6.
