An NFL player is at high risk of sustaining an injury while playing a game or training. Moreover, football injuries are more frequent with the league season currently in full swing.

We've already seen a number of injuries this season, with some more notable than others. Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's controversial concussion shook the NFL world. Luckily, he was able to return not too long after. Other players, including Denver Broncos wideout Tim Patrick, weren't so lucky. Patrick suffered a season-ending ACL tear even before the season started.

Certain areas of players’ bodies are more prone to injury. Here, we look at which injuries are the most common among football players.

NFL injury problems: Knee and foot injuries occur most frequently among players

As per reports, knee injuries have been the most common among NFL players since the start of 2000. Usually, knee injuries can affect the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) of a footballer.

A torn ACL can often mean the end of a player's season. Generally, wide receivers and running backs can tear or strain their ACL or PCL while landing awkwardly or quickly changing direction.

Other notable players who tore their ACLs this year include Broncos running back Javonte Williams and New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard.

Even quarterbacks might face the brunt of a tackle and cause damage to their knees. Sometimes, kickers or punters can suffer from a knee injury called patellar tendonitis, an injury to the connective tissue from the kneecap to the shinbone.

Ankle injuries are also common among NFL players. These occur often during a scrimmage. However, quarterbacks are at a big risk here as they can have opposition players falling on their ankles and potentially rolling over them.

Foot injuries are also common when players are jostling for the football. Here, tackling and roughing up players can lead to some damage to the base of a player's foot.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance fractured his ankle in Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks, cutting his season short. The 22-year-old will be hoping to come back stronger next season.

Nonetheless, as the season progresses, we hope that injuries stay at a minimum.
