The 10-week regular season of the XFL will begin on Saturday. The competition is making a return after shutting down operations in 2020.

Eight squads will compete in two divisions throughout the regular season. The top two teams from each division will qualify for the playoffs. The title game will be held on May 13.

The XFL is certainly not as lucrative or popular as the NFL. It has a much smaller fan base and pool of coaches and players. As such, coaches and players in the XFL earn much less than their NFL counterparts.

The highest-profile head coaches in the NFL can earn more than $10 million a year. However, that figure drops to around $500,000 for coaches in the XFL, according to league commissioner Oliver Luck.

Coaches are also expected to get bonuses for winning postseason games.

How much do XFL players make?

Pro Football Talk reported in 2019 that the average wage for an XFL player would be $55,000 annually, which incorporates base pay and a bonus for participating in each game.

However, it is believed that the top quarterbacks earn more than $250,000 per year. After the XFL season concludes in April, players can sign with an NFL franchise.

Several XFL players have participated in the NFL before and made bag, including former Atlanta Falcons quarterback AJ McCarron, who earned more than $15 million throughout his NFL career.
