Former Las Vegas Raiders star Henry Ruggs was involved in a fatal car accident on November 2, 2021. The receiver crashed his Corvette into a Toyota RAV4 at high speed in Las Vegas, killing a 23-year-old named Tina Tintor and her dog who were inside the vehicle.

When police arrived at the scene of the incident, Ruggs showed signs of impairment. However, the NFL star was quickly rushed to the hospital and later released from custody on a $150,000 bond by the Raiders.

Reports claim that Ruggs was driving his car at 156 mph seconds before the crash. He was also accused of having a blood-alcohol level over twice the legal limit in Nevada.

Ruggs was later charged with a felony for driving under the influence (DUI) involving death.

Although Ruggs is not currently incarcerated, as of May 2, 2023, the wide receiver has pled guilty to one count of DUI and one count of vehicular manslaughter. The guilty plea could mean he spends 3 to 10 years in prison.

If otherwise convicted on multiple counts, he could have faced up to 50 years in prison.

Henry Ruggs was picked 12th overall by the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2020 NFL draft. He was considered one of the most promising college football talents and looked destined for a lengthy career in the league.

In his first season with the Raiders, Ruggs racked up 452 yards on 26 receptions with two touchdowns. He had 24 receptions, 469 receiving yards and two touchdowns in seven games during the 2021 season but was released from the team after his accident.

His less than two seasons in the NFL saw him finish with 1,197 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns across 20 games.

It will be interesting to see whether Ruggs will ever return to the league. As things stand, he has a number of felonies to deal with before even thinking of playing football again.
