Wade Phillips' first matchup as the head coach of the Houston Roughnecks in the XFL was played on Saturday night at TDECU Stadium. The matchup against the Orlando Guardians was televised on FX and ESPN.

There will be ten regular-season games for the Roughnecks. Before taking to the road for three consecutive matches, the first three games will be played in the welcoming environment of TDECU Stadium, where they will play every one of their home games.

At a gathering at City Hall on Friday to introduce the team, Wade Phillips spoke about the opportunity to lead the Roughnecks and his passion for Houston. Before the pandemic ended the XFL's initial effort at rebirth in 2020, the Roughnecks were unbeaten at 5-0.

Since the Los Angeles Rams allowed him to leave in January 2020, Phillips has not managed any other NFL team. He has been a coach for more than four decades, leading his teams to the Super Bowl on two occasions and served as the defensive coordinator for eight NFL teams.

Where will all the XFL teams be hosting their games?

Many XFL teams have changed their names or relocated to new locales. The San Antonio Brahmas, a brand-new entry for the 2023 season, will take the place of the Los Angeles Wildcats from the previous season.

This new edition of the XFL will take place in eight different locales. The cities and venues where the games will be contested were confirmed by the league, which Dwayne Johnson runs.

It's essential to consider each club's home field for this season in light of all the developments that have happened in the organization since it last competed:

  • Arlington Renegades: Choctaw Stadium (Arlington)
  • D.C. Defenders: Audi Field (Washington)
  • Houston Roughnecks: TDECU Stadium (Houston)
  • Orlando Guardians: Camping World Stadium (Orlando)
  • San Antonio Brahmas: Alamodome (San Antonio)
  • Seattle Sea Dragons: Lumen Field (Seattle)
  • St. Louis Battlehawks: The Dome at America’s Center (St. Louis)
  • Vegas Vipers: Cashman Field (Las Vegas)

The Houston Roughnecks kick-started their season with a win over the Orlando Guardians

The COVID-19 pandemic ended the 2020 XFL season early, leaving the Houston Roughnecks, who were 5-0 at the time, as the only unbeaten team. On Saturday, they continued where they had left off.

The team severely outmatched the Orlando Guardians. On their way to a 33-12 thrashing of the Guardians at TDECU Stadium, the Roughnecks' home stadium, which is located on the University of Houston campus, they scored 24 straight points.
