While Joe Namath, a former footballer, may have been a tremendous athlete back in his day, his wife left him for a plastic surgeon.

Deborah Mays rose to fame as the former spouse of Joseph Namath, a National Football League player. She is well-known both for her association with Namath and for her own accomplishments as an actress who participated in the early 1980s television series 'The Greatest American Hero'.

In the early 1980s, Namath first encountered his ex-wife. He had made the decision to enroll in a vocal training course taught by renowned vocal coach Arthur Joseph at the time. By chance, his future wife, Mays, was a student at the same institute.

Joe and Deborah Mays got married in November 1984. The intimate wedding took place in the Coral Ridge Country Club in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Mays said that she had become tired of her marriage and was in love with Brian.

"We have two lovely girls, but I ultimately had to admit to Joe that the marriage wasn't working for me," she told People magazine. "I was weary. Brian has my heart. He's not Joe, though. He is quite sensitive."

The actress' two daughters from her union with Joe Namath are Jessica and Olivia.

After her cousin was killed, Mays reportedly replaced her first name, Deborah, with Tatiana, according to an article on Namath's divorce in the April 1999 issue of People Magazine.

Nevertheless, a 2004 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article claimed that Mays changed her name to Tatiana as she didn't want to be called Debbie. She was also not keen on being known as the wife of Joe Namath.

Is Joe Namath in a new relationship?

Joe Namath has not started a new affair as of 2022. Instead, he has been avoiding the press for a while and leading a solitary life. He now devotes himself to golfing and socializing with friends and family, activities he missed when his career was at its peak.

Namath once remarked, "I've always maintained that I'm only going to get married only once."

Joe Namath filed for a divorce

Contrary to what many media outlets have reported, Namath was the one who requested a divorce. Namath learned in 1998 that his wife, Deborah Mays, was engaged in an affair with Brian Novack, a penile plastic surgeon.

He made the decision to seek divorce after experiencing heartbreak and asked for full custody of their children. He prevailed in the conflict, and Mays, the kids' mother, was only able to visit them occasionally.
