The AFC ceased to exist after its fourth season in 1949. As a result, only three teams jumped into the NFL, and the original Buffalo Bills were not one of them. However, 11 years later, Buffalo received a team in the new AFL. The owner of that new team, Ralph C. Wilson, thus revived the Bills name, which stands to this day.
