“Betrayal, unscrupulous tactics” – Why Roger Goodell is getting sued again 

Former NFL players have just filed a lawsuit against Roger Goodell, the NFL commissioner. They are filing a class action suit against the NFL Player Disability and Survivor Benefit Plan and the NFL Player Disability and Neurocognitive Benefits Plan.

This group of players does not feel that the NFL's current system in place supports them after football when many have cognitive and head issues due to the trauma sustained as players.

Daniel Kaplan tweeted:

"Former NFL players filed a class action against The NFL Player Disability & Survivor Benefit Plan and NFL Player Disability & Neurocognitive Benefits Plan (the Plan), and each of the Board’s members, including NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell."

They are naming Goodell in the suit as well as all of the board members involved due to this. The NFL has a long and complicated history with this sort of thing, as they've been sued for concussion issues with former players as well.

The lawsuit in question, filed in the U.S. District Court for Maryland, claims that the league handed additional cases to financially-incentivized doctors if they denied more claims, per a Reuters report.

There is currently no timetable for the suit or what will happen next, but it is not good for the NFL or Goodell.

Not the first Roger Goodell lawsuit filed this season

Being the NFL commissioner has its perks, but it also has major drawbacks. It is great to be able to run the biggest sports league in America, but it is also a fairly controversial sport.

This is also not the first time Roger Goodell has been outright sued by someone. The Washington Commanders were sued for their toxic workplace issues from the decades-long issues that were recently investigated.

Goodell was named in the suit because the Attorney General said that Goodell allowed it to happen. He has also been in charge of the primary concussion-related issues that continue to come to light.

Roger Goodell is being sued twice

Several former NFL players are plaintiffs on that suit, but another suit has arrived as it's clear Goodell cannot escape some form of accountability for this.

He's guided the sport to becoming a powerhouse in the sports world, but that has not come without controversy.

The latest of which may force the commissioner to reconsider how some things go and devote time and resources to making sure players are taken care of after they retire.
