Why is Michael Irvin suing his accuser? Everything you need to know about $100M lawsuit

Tampa Bay Buccaneers v Dallas Cowboys
Pro Football Hall of Fame WR and NFL analyst Michael Irvin

Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin filed a whopping $100 million lawsuit against a woman who accused the former Dallas Cowboys star of wrongdoing. Irvin asserts that he's being "railroaded" by untrue allegations that are damaging his career.

Per the lawsuit, witnesses supported the NFL analyst's original claim that he "casually exchanged pleasantries" with a female employee at a Marriott (parent company of Renaissance Hotels) in Arizona. However, once Irvin and his team became informed of the assertions, they said they tried to provide witness accounts to the hotel in an attempt to sort out any misunderstanding. Yet, they claim the Renaissance did not want to listen.

The lawsuit also accuses the hotel manager of reporting the apparent incident to the NFL with the intention of damaging that relationship and canceling [Irvin]. It went on to say that the hotel failed to accept the facts and rushed to judgment, leading to defamatory accusations against Michael Irvin.

Part of the lawsuit said:

"Rash and thoughtless actions can have severe consequences. Marriott [parent company of Renaissance Hotels] apparently did not appreciate these simple truths when, in a rush to judgment, its employees and management inaccurately and inflammatorily accused Mr. Irvin of misconduct to the National Football League."

The allegations made against the three-time Super Bowl champion had some consequences in terms of covering Super Bowl 57.

What happened as a result of the accusations made against Michael Irvin?

The former Cowboys All-Pro wideout was pulled from the NFL Network's Super Bowl coverage as a result of the hotel employee's alleged complaint about his behavior. The details of the accuser's allegations are still not known to the public as of yet. Michael Irvin's lawyer, Levi McCathern, commented on the damage of the alleged claims made by the employee on his client's reputation.

McCathern said:

"It is clear Michael is the latest victim of our cancel culture where all it takes is an accusation to ruin a person’s life. Michael looks forward to clearing his name in court and hopes the Court of public opinion will see the truth come out as well."
